About the Event
Music has always been an important facet of American history, reflecting its culture, politics, technology, and more. Join Sam Kafrissen as he introduces twenty songs, five each week, that significantly impacted musical history. Registrants will receive a summary of the five songs to prepare for each class where you will listen to, discuss, offer personal insights, and even argue over the selection. The pieces will span the entire fabric of American music including early folk songs, show tunes, jazz, swing music, rock and roll, and hip-hop. Sam received a B.A. from Syracuse University in American Studies, a Master’s in Education from Boston University, and a Master’s in History from UMass-Boston. A retired English and history teacher with 32 years at Lexington High School, Sam enjoys writing detective novels and traveling.
