About the Event
How do we know we have the exact words Jesus said? If the Bible contains one single theological narrative, why do we have multiple versions of biblical books, even within the canon? What would lead authors and scribes to make such drastic changes to this material?
Join biblical scholar and archaeologist Nate Ramsayer for the sixth presentation in his seven-part course How the Bible Became a Book. Now that we’ve discussed accidental changes to the Bible in our previous session, we will hone in on what scholars have identified as purposeful alterations to biblical books, and how we know these are intentional changes. What’s at stake are the profound implications this has for our theological understandings of these texts—concepts which most people take for granted, as they are unaware of this phenomenon of altering sacred words. Feel free to join, even if you have missed other lectures!
