About the Event
Join John Leysath the Curatorial Director of the Hammond Castle Museum. A scholar of European history and a state-licensed educator, also a freelance videographer, performer, and digital artist for several years. Mr. Leysath first visited Hammond Castle Museum as a child and was initially drawn to the building due to his fascination with medieval Europe. However, upon beginning his tenure as curator, his avid interest in the history of technology steered him towards specializing in the work of the Museum’s founder, prolific American inventor John Hays Hammond Jr. Often called “the father of radio control,” Mr. Hammond accumulated an impressive collection of well over five hundred patents in a career spanning half a century, from 1909 to 1961. Mr. Leysath’s presentation focuses on Mr. Hammond’s pioneering scientific work in the fields of radio, television, robotics, and military technology, his collection of European artifacts, and the unique character of his home and Museum in Gloucester, Massachusetts.
