About the Event
Join Quanzhou (Jack) Zhao, an award-winning ink and calligraphy artist for a lecture-demonstration on the historical and cultural context of a highly esteemed art form, Chinese Calligraphy. He will interpret some of the greatest ancient masterpieces, including the Orchid Pavilion Preface, which is widely regarded as the greatest calligraphy work by Wang Xizhi.
Zhao graduated from the acclaimed painting program at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels. He proudly won the Gold Medal Prize of the Royal Association of Professional Artists of Belgium in 2001. Later that year, he relocated to the United States to further his art studies at the School of Visual Arts in New York, where he earned his MFA degree. Zhao's artworks and live calligraphy performances have been exhibited at various prestigious locations, including the Walloon Fine Art Museum in Belgium, the Culture Center of Monterrey in Mexico, the Boston Sculptors Gallery, the Fuller Craft Museum, and The Peabody Essex Museum/Fountain Area.
