About the Event

This class will explore: Plutocracy, Oligarchy, Inequality - The Trajectory of the American Political Economy From the New Deal to the Present. The New Deal was a social and economic response to the failure of American Capitalism in the 1920s. Despite its successes in the 1930s and 1940s and its renewal in the 1960s as part of Lyndon Johnson’s Great Society and War on Poverty, the forces of economic and political reaction staked out a carefully planned attack upon social liberalism. Join Lorin Maloney to study, examine and discuss this interesting theory presented in the text for the class:  Democracy in Chains: the Deep History of the Radical Right’s Stealth Plan for America by Nancy MacLean. This class meets Wednesdays from 7:00 to 9:00 pm.  Class Dates: March 18, 25; April 1, 8, 15, 22, 29; May 6. Cost for 8 classes: $80.
