Postponing Last 2 Weeks of class: Jenks Learning Connection - Chopin
Time & Location
About the Event
Throughout his tragically short career, Chopin created a celebrated body of work written almost exclusively for piano. Today’s listeners tend to link the composer with the Romantic Movement, which swept Europe in the 19th century. Yet it is Chopin’s persona—the sensitive young artist with long, slender fingers, frail body, and genteel manners—that calls to mind elements of Romanticism. The music itself is unique; the sensuous, emotionally provocative beauty of its sound is inimitable. Over the four weeks of this class, Dotty will examine aspects of the composer’s life—his early manifestations of genius as performer in his native Poland, his adult years in Paris, his relationships with other artists, and his role as beloved teacher. Actively listen to Chopin’s works, both large and small in scale, including samples from each genre, and experience how the music becomes an enduring source of pleasure. Space limited. Class Dates: March 6, 13, 20, 27. Cost for 4 classes: $40.
