About the Event
Author Ed Hume, PhD is well known in the Live Steam hobby world from his many magazine articles. He wrote and published “A Climax Class A Live Steam Locomotive Model” book. Ed earned his PhD in Chemical Engineering from MIT and earned a degree in Chemistry as an undergraduate. In our virtual shop tour, Ed will show us around his shop and give an overview of the tools used for precision metalworking. The larger tools include a CNC mill, a metalworking lathe, and a manual vertical mill. While moving through the shop, various machined parts and completed projects will be presented including a 1/6 scale old fashioned handcar propelled by robots. Highlights of the locomotive models include a Class A Climax model from the 19th century, and a Class C Shay model from the roaring twenties. We will also experience some hands-on with the 3D design software Ed uses to develop new locomotive models. Register to obtain Zoom link. Sponsored by a generous grant from The Cummings Foundation.
