About the Event

Slatersville: Capturing a 250 Year Story Through the Lens of Time with Filmmaker Christian de Rezendes: This historical docuseries covers the origin of the Rhode Island textile industry. Over the course of the episodes, Christian de Rezendes will take the audience on an enriching journey from its early days to the fight to preserve its structure in the 21st Century. In January he will present:


  • The Mental Smugglers (Episode 1), Tuesday, January 20, 11:00 am will begin in Belper, England, the birthplace of Samuel Slater, who is known as the “Father of the Industrial Revolution” in America but a traitor to his native land.


  • Controlling No Man’s Land (Episode 2), Tuesday, January 27, 11:00 am will focus on how Samuel Slater and his brother find the land and create and control their own village and build a whole new mill.
