About the Event
The Jenks Center welcomes ‘The Alex Minasian Jazz Trio’ for an afternoon of entertainment. Pianist, Alex Minasian , bassist Keala Kaumeheiwa and drummer & composer Lee Fish will honor the legends of jazz music, including Charlie Parker and Thelonious Monk, as well as music from the Great American Songbook.
Alex Minasian has performed in most of the country's most famous jazz rooms. He was the last pianist for legendary vocalists Little Jimmy Scott, and is the pianist and musical director for the renowned jazz singer Mark Murphy, and performs as pianist and musical director for singer, actor, songwriter, and musical historian Billy Vera and his 18-piece big band. Alex has also headlined such important jazz celebrations as the Rochester Jazz Festival and the Istanbul Jazz Festival.
Keala Kaumeheiwa has performed with the New York String Orchestra at Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center, as well as with Jimmy Heath, Jackie McLean and Herbie Hancock.
Alex and Keala are joined by acclaimed Boston-born drummer and composer Lee Fish. A fixture at Wally’s Cafe during his student tenure at Berklee — playing with such distinctive leaders as Jason Palmer, Esperanza Spalding, Nadia Washington, and Evgeny Lebedev — Lee became a highly sought collaborator in Boston, who’s now flexing his breadth as a leader in New York City.
Sponsored by a generous grant from The Cummings Foundation.
