About the Event

Join Shuichi, as he takes us on a philosophical, historical, and artistic journey through the art and philosophy of Japanese Kintsugi. Learn how the Kintsugi technique, an extension of the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi, sees beauty in the incomplete and value in simplicity. This 9,000-year-old practice of Kintsugi, meaning “to join with gold” is a reminder to stay optimistic when things fall apart and to celebrate the flaws and missteps of life. Participants will learn about the various materials used, the unseen structure and process of Kintsugi, its crisis and its future. Shuichi has been practicing Kintsugi in Japan since 2005 and now lives in Toronto. He is bringing a greater awareness and appreciation of this art form to Canada and the United States. Register to obtain the Zoom link.

Sponsored by a generous grant from The Cummings Foundation.
