About the Event
Join John Clark for a presentation on how JIVE, a specific genre of music, is more of an underlying attitude, talk, look, and lifestyle that is expressed musically. Learn how it all began during the 20s and 30s with the hot scatting and soloing of Louis Armstrong and the rollicking piano playing and outrageous personality of Fats Waller. In the late 30s and early 40s the antics of Slim Gaillard added to the fun. Other featured artists include Cliff Edwards, Ina Rae Hutton, Bing Crosby, Tommy Dorsey, Andrews Sisters, and the Cats & the Fiddle. This program is guaranteed to make you laugh and wriggle in your chair. As the hipsters like to say, ‘be there or be square’. Registration required. Sponsored by a generous grant from the John and Mary Murphy Educational Foundation.
