About the Event
In partnership with The Winchester Historical Society and The Stoneham Historical Society, join us for this remarkable transforming presentation in celebration of this date. The twenty-first of December marks the 400th anniversary of Mayflower's arrival in Plymouth Harbor and the legendary landing at Plymouth Rock. Historian Richard Pickering will describe the Pilgrims' arrival and exploration of Cape Cod in November 1620, and the harrowing (almost fatal) adventure that led them to select Plymouth as their settlement site. Then, right before your eyes, he will transform into Mayflower passenger William Brewster and describe the Pilgrims first colonial Christmas, their difficult first winter in New England, and their first meetings with Samoset, Tisquantum, and the Pokanoket sachem Massasoit. Learn about this pivotal event in our country’s history from one of our initial English leaders, presented in this transforming monologue performance by a passionate historian/actor, Richard Pickering. Mr. Pickering is the Deputy Executive Director at Plimoth Patuxet Museum, the living history museum of 17th-century Plymouth Colony and the Wampanoag Homeland. He has been with the Museum for more than thirty years and has served as a historical role player, research associate, Director of Education, and Director of Special Projects. Register to obtain the Zoom link. Sponsored by a grant from the Cummings Foundation.
