About the Event
Join us for this illustrated talk by Jane Hennedy, site manager for two 18th century farms in South County owned by Historic New England where evidence of ice harvesting can still be seen. She will provide a crystal-clear look into regional collections on food preservation methods used prior to ice boxes, the opportunities for cold cash from this seasonal industry, how activity invigorated food culture here and around the world, and with the advent of electrical refrigeration, the slow melting of the ice business. If anyone in or around Winchester has any local information and images about ice harvesting, please contact the Jenks Center and share before the event. Register to receive a Zoom link. Sponsored by a generous grant from The Cummings Foundation.
