Jenks Learning Connection
Funded through a grant from The John and Mary Murphy Educational Foundation, the Jenks Learning Connection (JLC) provides evening classes for several weeks in the fall and spring, offering opportunities for adults in the community to expand their knowledge and skills.
Initiated in October 2002, the JLC program presents a variety of courses on Wednesday evenings that extend four to eight weeks each session. Topics include history, art, music, quilting, drama, bridge, mindfulness, gardening, tai chi, and more.
Specific classes vary each season. We welcome suggestions for courses and instructors. Forward ideas to
Maria Rutnam, Program Manager at the Jenks Center.
Below are the JLC Programs for April 2023
JENKS CENTER: Palladio 101: Architecture and Global Influence with Lecturer John McConnell
Wednesdays, April 5, 19 & 26 - 6:30 pm - Cost: 3 classes: $30: John McConnell will be presenting a three- lecture course which examines Andrea Palladio’s Architecture. The first segment will focus on his major works and then the enthusiastic Palladianism which followed from it for centuries in both Europe (in part 2) and America (in part 3). Learn how Palladio was the most widely influential architect in Western history (1508 – 1580). How he achieved prominence for work in the area around Venice. How he was adopted into a circle of learned men, where he rose from an apprentice stone cutter to the pinnacle of his profession as an interpreter of Imperial Roman art and culture and how his fame and influence spread far and wide, from Bombay to Boston along with the eventual publication of his books in many languages. In shaping this heritage to his clients’ benefits, he arrived at a unique personal architectural style.
